PST: อยากให้เล่าถึงการปั่นจักรยานให้ฟังหน่อย
ซี: จักรยานอยู่ในชีวิตเราตั้งแต่เด็กๆก็เริ่มปั่น
BMX บ้างจักรยานธรรมดาบ้าง ปั่นใช้ในชีวิต ประจำวันแล้วถึงจุดนึงมันก็หายไป แต่ที่กลับมาปั่นใหม่เนี่ยคือชอบจักรยานฟิกซ์เกียร์
ชอบที่รูปลักษณ์ ความเรียบง่าย ไม่มีดิสก์ ไม่มีเกียร์หรืออะไรเลย
มันดึงดูดให้เราสนใจและได้ลองปั่น ซึ่งก็ปั่นมาได้ ประมาณสี่ปีแล้ว
สิน: เป็นคนปั่นไม่เยอะ
เริ่มจริงๆก็เมื่อได้มาช่วยอยู่ที่ร้านแล้วก็มีปั่นออกทริปแจมกับคนอื่น เป็นการออกกำลังกาย
PST: ตอนนี้มีจักรยานกันกี่คันแล้ว
ซี: หลักๆมีอยู่สองคัน
มีฟิกซ์คันนึงแล้วก็ซิตี้ไบค์มีเกียร์คันนึง
สิน: แล้วแต่เหตุการณ์แล้วแต่ว่ามีรถอะไรเหลือก็ใช้คันนั้น
PST: ปกติขี่จักรยานไปไหนบ้าง
ซี: ออกทริปเป็นหลัก
ในเมืองกลางคืนซะส่วนใหญ่เพราะเพื่อนๆจะไม่ค่อยว่างกลางวันกัน และร้อน
ไลฟสไตล์ของเรามันเหมาะกับการปั่นกลางคืนมากกว่า
สิน: เส้นทางที่ปั่นก็ขึ้นอยู่กับทักษะนะ
ถ้าใหม่มากๆก็ไม่แนะนำให้ลงถนนแนะนำเป็นสวนรถไฟ สวนลุมหรือสวนเบญจสิริแต่ถ้าแข็งขึ้นมาก็น่าจะหากลุ่มปั่นที่มีคนรู้จักเส้นทาง
เพราะบางทีอาจมี เรื่องไม่คาดฝันอย่างหลุมบ่อ เส้นทางก็อย่างลานพระรูปหรือเอเชียทีค
เกษตรนวมินทร์ หรือช๊อคโกแลตวิลล์
PST: อยากให้พี่ซีเล่าถึงการปั่นฟิกซ์เกียร์ให้ฟังหน่อย
เพราะผู้หญิงส่วนใหญ่ไม่ได้ปั่นฟิกซ์เกียร์กัน
ซี: เริ่มจากการที่เรามีปัญหาในการเซ็ทเกียร์
เซ็ทเบรค หรือสายที่มันระโยงระยาง ก็เลยคิดว่า ความเรียบง่ายของฟิกซ์เกียร์ก็เหมือนซิงเกิ้ลสปีดธรรมดาแต่ว่ามันสามารถเบรคได้ด้วยตัวของมันเอง
โดยที่ไม่ต้องมีอะไรเยอะแยะมากมาย แค่สคิดก็หยุดได้ จริงๆแล้วมันไม่ได้ใช้แรงเยอะ
เพียงแต่ว่า เราไม่ค่อยมีเวลาทำความรู้จักกับมันแค่นั้นเอง
ซีให้เวลาจักรยานฟิกซ์เกียร์ของตัวเองสองอาทิตย์ ซึ่งเป็นเวลาเฉลี่ยของทุกคนที่มีฟิกซ์เกียร์
มันไม่เหมือนกับพวกจักรยานภูเขาที่เอาลงไปแล้วใช้ได้เลย สำหรับซีรถซีติดเบรคก่อนแล้วก็หัดสคิด
เอาจักรยานขึ้นรถไปหัดสคิดที่โลตัส พอสคิดได้แล้ว ถึงถอดเบรคแล้วค่อยออกขี่
วิธีการสคิดของมันก็คือเราจะต้องเลือกอัตราทดของจานหน้าและ เฟืองหลังให้มันง่ายต่อการสคิด
ถ้ามันไม่เหมาะสมกับเราจะทำอะไรมันก็ทำยากแล้ว เพราะจะ ควบคุมไม่ได้
แต่เมื่อมันลงตัวแล้วมันจะง่าย คล่องตัว ควบคุมได้ด้วยเท้าอย่างเดียว
อย่างบางทีเราไป ลองรถเพื่อนแล้วทำไม่ได้ มันก็เป็นเหตุผลที่ทำให้เราท้อ ซึ่งจริงๆแล้วรถมันแค่ไม่เหมาะ
กับเราเท่านั้นเอง แต่เพราะรายละเอียดต่างๆมันเหมาะกับเพื่อนมากกว่า
ซึ่งซีก็จะปรับแต่งรถ ให้เหมาะสมกับทักษะและการใช้งานของลูกค้าซึ่งแต่ละคนก็ต่างกันไป
แต่ซีก็จะแนะนำลูกค้าว่า เวลาขี่ก็ควรจะติดเบรค ใส่หมวกกันน็อคและติดไฟ
PST: ทำไมถึงคิดอยากทำร้านจักรยาน
ซี: จริงๆแล้วมันมาจากการซื้อจักรยานมาหนึ่งคัน
เราก็ต้องปรับแต่งให้เป็นตัวเราเข้ากับสรีระเรา
มีรายละเอียดต่างๆของชิ้นส่วนจักรยาน เราก็เลยเริ่มแต่งหาอะไหล่
ทีนี้บางทีมันหาอะไหล่ที่ถูกใจ ในเมืองไทยไม่ได้ก็เลยเริ่มสั่งมาจากเมืองนอกมา
แล้วพอดีจักรยานคันนี้มันอยู่ที่ร้านอาหาร ร้านสปาเก็ตตี้ของเราเองตรงโชคชัยสี่ ก็แต่งไปแต่งมาจนวันนึงเพื่อนมาเห็นก็ชอบถามว่าซื้ออะไหล่ ที่ไหน
เราก็เลยเริ่มให้คำแนะนำเพื่อน เริ่มสั่งให้ แบ่งขายบ้าง แล้วมันก็เลยเริ่มมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆจนของ
ที่สั่งมาเริ่มกินเนื้อที่ร้านอาหารของเรา แล้วเราก็เริ่มปั่นมากขึ้น
มีการนัดมาดูจักรยานเป็นเรื่องเป็น ราว จนกิจการจักรยานมันเริ่มเบียดเบียนกิจการร้านอาหาร
จนในวันนึงร้านสปาเก็ตตี้ก็กลายเป็น ร้านจักรยานในที่สุด
PST: Sealee มีสองสาขา ต่างกันยังไง
ซี: ตรงโชคชัยสี่จะเป็นเรื่องของอะไหล่ที่อยู่กับจักรยานสาย
BMX, dirt เป็นแบบพวกที่เซอร์วิส เยอะๆ ขึ้นล้อ ตั้งเกียร์ เป็นแนวงานหนักๆ
ส่วนตรงนี้ (ที่เพชรบุรี) จะเน้นเป็นพวกซิตี้ไบค์ ตามไลฟ์สไตล์ของลูกค้าละแวกนี้
เรามีลูกค้าแถวนี้เยอะ คิดว่าคนทำงานก็น่าจะมีโอกาศได้เลือก ได้รับการเซอร์วิสจากร้านจักรยานที่มันอยู่ในเมืองบ้าง
เพราะแถวนี้ยังไม่มีร้านจักรยานที่มีสไตล์ ประมาณนี้ เพราะโดยสถานที่สิ่งแวดล้อมและคนแถวนี้เป็นคนที่มีสไตล์อยู่แล้ว
เค้าจะรู้ว่าเค้า เป็นคนยังไงและก็เลือกจักรยานที่สะท้อนความเป็นตัวตนออกมา
ถ้าร้านนี้ไปอยู่ที่โชคชัยสี่มันก็ไม่ได้ เป็นคนละสไตล์กัน ส่วนเรื่องรับผิดชอบดูแลร้านซีจะไปมา
พี่ลีจะอยู่ที่โชคชัยสี่แล้วก็มีช่าง ส่วนตรงนี้ก็จะมีพี่สินกับพี่โจ้
PST: Sealee บอกว่า
we are urban bike, ความหมาย urban bike ของ Sealee คืออะไร
สิน: ก็ตามชื่อเลย
คือรถที่ใช้งานในเมือง คือทุกๆคนที่อยู่ในเมืองสามารถมีทางเลือก
ในการเดินทางโดยใช้จักรยานได้ ซึ่งมันดีต่อทั้งสิ่งแวดล้อมและสุขภาพ มันจะเป็นจักรยาน
อีกประเภทนึงที่ไม่เหมือนกับที่ใช้แข่งขันที่เน้นสเป็ค เน้นความเบา พวกนี้จะเน้นใช้งานและ
บ่งบอกคงามเป็นตัวของตัวเอง ลูกค้าชอบแบบไหนเราก็จัดจักรยานแบบนั้นให้
เน้นที่การใช้งาน เคลื่อนย้ายสะดวกและความสวยงาม
PST: คิดว่าการขี่จักรยานแบรนด์ใหม่ดังๆ
จักรยานดีไซน์อย่างเช่น Tokyo bike หรือ Vanmoof มันเป็นเทรนด์มั๊ย
ซี: อย่างที่พี่สินบอกคือจักรยานมันเป็นทางเลือกนึงในการเดินทาง
มันเป็นเทรนด์รักโลก หลายคนปั่นจักรยานเพราะสุขภาพ บางคนเลือกเพราะความจำกัดของสถานที่
คิดว่าคนเลือกปั่น จักรยานมากขึ้นแตไม่ใช่เพราะแฟชั่น
และมันบังเอิญว่าจักรยานแบบนี้มันเพิ่งเข้ามามันก็จะเป็น หนึ่งในตัวเลือกของคนที่ชอบจักรยานอยู่แล้ว
หรือบางคนอย่างซีเนี่ยจะไม่อยากขี่จักรยานแบบ องค์เต็มหน่ะ
จักรยานพวกนี้มันไม่ต้องแต่งตัวสปอร์ตมากสามารถแต่งตัวสวยขี่ได้ แม้แต่หมวก กันน็อคสวยๆก็มี
สิน: บุคลิกของร้านเรากับบุคลิกของแบรนด์จักรยานมันตรงกันมากกว่า
มันเลยเหมือนกับ เราลิ้งค์กับ Tokyo Bike หรือ Vanmoof ซึ่งเน้นดีไซน์สำหรับคนในเมือง
ซึ่งก็เหมือนเราที่อยากจะ ตอบโจทย์คนในเมืองเหมือนเช่นกัน ส่วน Tokyo Bike
ก็มีคอนเซ็ปท์เหมือนกับเราคืออยากให้คนเมือง มีจักรยานง่ายๆไว้ปั่นสักคัน ไม่ต้องมีความรู้เรื่องเทคนิคเยอะแค่มีจักรยานขึ้นคร่อมแล้วก็ขี่ได้เลย
PST: อนาคตของ
Sealee จะเป็นยังไง
ซี: อยากให้ร้านมีอะไหล่ที่ตอบโจทย์ลูกค้าได้เหมือนของเราเอง
เช่นมีหมวกขี่จักรยานสวยเก๋ อยากให้เราเป็นเหมือนคำตอบของไลฟ์สไตล์ในการขี่จักรยานของทุกคน
สิน: เคยไปร้านจักรยานที่เมืองนอกและได้เห็นความมีเอกลักษณ์และจุดเด่นของตัวเอง
อย่างเช่นร้านที่มีหลายสาขาแต่ก็ยังคงคอนเซ็ปท์เดียวกันก็มองว่า Sealee คือการแต่งรถสวยๆ
บ่งบอกถึงตัวตนในจักรยานและก็อยากจะทำร้านแบบนี้ที่อื่นด้วยจะได้ครอบคลุมลูกค้าในเมืองทั้งหมด

Sealee Urban, the bike shop for urbanista told us about the becoming of Sealee, bicycle trends for Bangkokians and ladies with fixed gear bikes.
PST:
Please tell us about your ride
Sea: Bicycles have been in my life since I was
little. I started off with the BMXs and the simple ones, riding them to the
nearby markets until one day I stopped. They came back in to my life again
because I spotted the simplicity of the fixed gears. They are so minimal and
very attractive, and it’s been 4 years since my first ride on the fixed gear.
Sin: Before I didn’t ride very often. I started
taking up riding after I worked at Sealee. I sometimes go on bike trips with
others.
PST: How many bikes do you guy have now?
Sea: 2, one fixed gear and one city bike with
gears.
Sin: I don’t actually own one, I tend to ride
whatever is left behind at the shop.
PST: Where do you normally go riding?
Sea: I usually ride at night cause most of my
friends work during the days. And it’s too hot to ride in the daytime too.
Sin: I think the routes to take depend highly on
your skills. If you are newbies I suggest you avoid riding on the main roads,
Suan-rod-fai, Lumbhini or Benjasiri Parks might be a better start. Once you
have more skills them you should find a gang that you can ride and hang out
with. There might be unforeseen circumstances when go out riding that someone
who is familiar with the routes might be of help. Other destinations
recommended are to Rama 5 monument, Asiatique by the river and Chocolate Ville.
PST: Khun Sea please tell us more about you and
your fixed gear, especially when ladies don’t tend to ride them that much.
Sea: Initially I don’t like setting up the
gears or the brakes, so the nature of single speed fixed gears is more
appealing to me. I can halt just by skidding, using some strength and my own
legs. Personally, I don’t find skidding that difficult, you just have to spend
sometime to know your bike. I spent about 2 weeks learning how to skid in a
parking lot, meanwhile I put a brake on my bike too. But once I was confident
enough, I took off the brake. One important thing in learning how to skid is
you would need to set up the bike’s front and back discs according to your own abilities
too. I always recommend my customers to put on the brakes when they are unsure,
and to ride with helmets and lights on.
PST: Why opening a bike shop?
Sea: It started off when I bought a bike. I
wanted to be able change it’s specifications by myself so I ordered from the
websites. And this bike was parked at my Spaghetti shop at Chokchai 4, so the
shop became my workshop. When my friends dropped by, they noticed my bike and
liked it a lot they asked me to help with theirs too. So that was the start of
the business. With too many bicycle parts, eventually the Spaghetti shop turned
itself into a bike shop.
PST: There are 2 branches of Sealee, what are
their differences?
Sea: The Chokchai 4 branch concentrates more on
the fixed gears and BMXes that need heavy duty services while here (Petchburi
branch) focuses on city bikes according to the urban lifestyle of our customers
here. Khun Lee and his mechanics take care of the Chokchai 4 branch, Khun Sin
and Khun Jo take care of here while I hop over between the two places.
PST: Sealee positions itself as ‘we are urban
bike’ how can you justify this?
Sin: Well, the name clarifies itself I guess.
Urban bikes are city bikes, they are here as a choice of transportation for
city people. Riding bicycle in the big city benefits your health as well as
environmental friendly. These city bikes are not speedy but light, easy to
carry around and reflect the owners’ characters and lifestyles.
PST: Do you think the hip bicycle brands such as
Tokyo bike or Vanmoof are in-trend now?
Sea: As Khun Sin said, bicycles are another
transportation option but it also reflects ‘love the earth’ trend that is going
on right now. Some people bike for the health, some bike to work. In my
opinion, more people ride bicycles not because it’s a fashion. These brands of
bicycles are just choices for the customer who are urbanistas and don’t like to
fully dress up to the bicycle gears when go out riding. They can still wear
beautiful fashionable clothes that go along with their bikes when go out
riding.
Sin: It’s just coincidence that our characters
and the brands’ personalities match. So it seems like we have connections with
Tokyo bike while Vanmoof is urban design orientated. They are both made for the
use in big cities.
PST: What’s the future of Sealee?
Sea: I want my shop to be able to reflect my own
wants and personality for example having cool helmets and nice riding clothes.
I wish Sealee would be an urban lifestyle answer to every city bikers in town.
Sin: I have visited bike shops in other
countries. I was inspired by each shop’s own characters and want to do
something like that with Sealee. We might expand but each branch would still
have the same Sealee concept of ‘making nice bikes’.
