เราต้องขี่จักรยานแล้วถ่ายรูปเก็บไว้

Tom Pan-Ek Ratanaruang (film director / freelance stock investor) and Pan Rudeewan Toatong (writer / freelance copy writer) told us about how they use bicycles in their daily lives.
PST: If you were to take Pan for a date ride, where would it be?
Tom: You don’t give me time to think! Umm.. maybe
for a meal at a place called ‘Saew’ at Sukumwit 49
PST: Where is your favourite riding destination?
Pan: We normally ride around here, so it would
probably be the odd numbers Sukumwit soi I think.
Tom: I have been riding since I was a small kid,
and been living here for almost 50 years now so I have a pretty good knowledge
of all the little soi and short cuts.
Pan: The odd numbers soi near the rivers are
very pleasant to ride.
Tom: Well, I often take her there so you can say
it is a place for our date ride. I like to explore all the beautiful local
architectures that started to disappear. There is a Muslim community with their
cute little houses and the Fascist buildings of Prasarnmitr University. They
started knocking down all these beautiful structures in order to build the new and
modern ones with all the glass façade. So we had to ride bicycle around the area
and take photos before they are totally gone.
PST: What’s your worst riding experience?
Pan: When you were riding while carrying a
3-tier cake?
Tom: No not really, I never had such a bad
experience like been chasing by dogs. But there was once when I just got my new
bike. The rain just stopped and I was riding so fast and then there was a bend
and I slipped and fell down. Lucky there was no car coming behind me.
PST: Did you wear a helmet?
Tom: No, didn’t have any protection what so ever.
PST: Where would be your dream riding destination?
Pan: We use bicycles for our daily life so there
is no special place we want to go.
Tom: For us, riding bicycle is not a sport or for
working out. But there are occasions that we go riding at Benjakiti Park.
However, the climax of our ride usually is when we get to buy drinks afterwards.
We would get all excited when it comes to choosing where to buy or even what
choice of drinks we should take. And sometimes when we go riding in the park,
there would be bikers on the expensive bikes riding very fast while shouting
KEEP LEFT! KEEP LEFT! I personally think expensive bikes are also a risk. I
have heard of many incidents where thieves actually use knifes to hurt the
riders and take the bikes. Modern thieves do know what our lifestyles are by
just looking at our bikes.
Pan: My friend told me that a female rider got
mugged while riding around Thonglor area. The thief was on a motorcycle
following her, grabbed her backpack, she fell down on the road and was dragged
on for a good distant. Luckily her friend caught up with her and scared
the thief away.
PST:
Nowadays people start riding bicycle
more, so does riding bicycle have any effect on the making of your movie or TV commercial?
Tom: The concept of most TV commercials is following
the trend, so for bicycle it would be like someone rides a bike, get off, take
out the iPad and so something with it for some reason. But luckily, I was never
forced to include such things in my work. If I make my own movie, it
would be my personal story, according to my preference and it might not be for
everyone.
Pan: Actually in his movie ‘Head Shot’, there
was a bicycle scene but he took it out at the end. He even played that part himself.
Tom: It was a shot when a random guy rode a bike
pass the monk who was the assassin. And this random guy made a ‘wai’ to the
monk. But I was too embarrassed about it so I took it out.
Pan: He wanted to show that he could ride
without using his hands.
Tom: I wanted to show everyone what ‘Look mum no
hands’ style was like.
